Aqua de Vista

A Beautiful Beachfront Villa In the Heart of Great Abaco, The Bahamas

Enjoy our beautiful beachfront villa located in central Abaco with panoramic views of the Sea of Abaco. Relax on our quiet beach and take a dip in the crystal clear waters. Or do one of the many adventurous things to do in the Abacos. Take the stress out of life! Relax as you take in the tranquility of the view. Hence, Aqua de Vista “The Water View.”   Hope to see you soon!

Remember – It’s always better in the Bahamas!

Here are some reasons why you should stay at Aqua de Vista! (click to expand):
  • Privacy and exclusivity: When you rent our villa, you get it all to yourself! This is perfect for a family of six or groups of friends who want to relax and have fun without having to worry about being disturbed. At night it is so peaceful with no noise but the sound of the waves and the wind in the palm trees.
  • Hang out on the beach!: Relax on the beach or swim in the ocean! Of course, no vacation in the Bahamas would be complete without spending some time relaxing on the beach, strolling along the waters edge, and collecting sea shells. Our villa is steps from the ocean, about 50 steps to be exact, depending on tide. 🙂 The beach has no waves as it is protected by the out-islands (Great Guana Cay, etc) and also the little islet called Lobster Cay. We also offer a 2-person kayak, some snorkel gear and various water toys and inflatables (see our amenities section for more on this). At low tide you can walk to Lobster Cay (about 500 feet off our beach) in about waist deep water, but you won’t be able to walk around it as it’s 10 to 15 feet deep on the other side. We have been told that you can catch lobsters off the rock off the deep end of the islet, hence the name, Lobster Cay. It is highly recommended to wear some type of water shoe when exploring the water and walking the beach as there are patches of limestone rock which can be sharp on your feet.
  • Location: Our villa is perfectly situated to enjoy all that the Bahamas has to offer, such as a calm beach, crystal-clear waters, and views of the Abaco Outer Islands such as Treasure Cay and Great Guana Cay. Aqua de Vista is located in Central Abaco 20 minutes north from Marsh Harbour Airport and 15 minutes south from Treasure Cay airport. Our property is easy to find off of S.C. Bootle High Way.
  • Activities and experiences: There are endless things to do in the Bahamas, from swimming and snorkeling to fishing and hiking. You can also explore the local culture and history, or simply relax and soak up the sun. At Aqua de Vista there is nothing better than having fun in the sun and enjoying the beach. You feel like you have the whole area to yourself. It’s very quiet and peaceful. Life should slow down. The highlights of the day is watching the many sea turtles swim by and on a rare occasion, a barracuda or sting ray.

We hope this gives you some ideas of why you should stay at our villa in the Bahamas. We’re sure you’ll have a wonderful time!

Amenities

In the Kitchen (click to expand):
  • Kitchen Ware: The kitchen is stocked with basic cooking ware such as plates, glasses, bowls, utensils, pots, pans, etc… Everything you should need to prep and eat meals. There is an electric stove, microwave, toaster oven and an InstaPot.  There currently is no oven.  The refrigerator is a large side by side freezer / refrigerator. There are ice trays in the freezer. There is NO dishwasher. But we do have a dish drying rack. If you hate to wash dishes, maybe bring or buy some paper plates.
  • Kitchen Appliances: There is an electric stove, a large microwave a large toaster oven and an InstaPot.  The refrigerator is a large side by side freezer / refrigerator. There are ice trays in the freezer if you want to make ice cubes, but no Ice Maker. There is NO dishwasher  or oven. But we do have a dish drying rack and provide dish soap.
  • Toaster Oven: We currently do not have an oven, but do provide a large toaster oven that will fit 12″ pizzas and suffice for most baking needs.
  • Drinking Water: We provide 10 gallons of fresh water for drinking. This should get you through a week. If you need more, you can call for provisioning or you can take one of the empty 5 gallon jugs to Island Waters (in Marsh Harbour) or Abaco Groceries to have it re-filled (Cost is about $5) Our water is sourced from Well and Rain. Our sink water is “brackish”, meaning it has some salt in it. Too much salt to drink. So,  You can cook, shower, etc., from the tap water, It’s just recommended not to drink it. The laundry seems to clean well as it would with a bit of added salt in the water. Note that everything rusts in the Bahamas with this brackish water. So keep that in mind if you see brown rust spots on the sink or silver wear. Drying items completely help to reduce the salt residue.
  • BBQ Grill: We provide a BBQ grill under the Cabana. You will have to provide your own Charcoal though (available through provisioning or local grocery stores).
Front Rooms (click to expand):
  • Living Room: Our living room has seating for 6 people. Six chairs and one love seat. there is also a large 65″ tv, that is mounted high above the windows so that the stunning panoramic daytime view of the Sea of Abaco is not blocked.
  • Dining Area: The dining table seats up to 6 people. There are also 4 barstools along the kitchen island. Enjoy panoramic views of the Sea of Abaco while eating your favorite meal. Or if it’s night time, watching Pirates of the Caribbean on the large TV in the living room.
  • Work Station: We offer a work station in the main room. No computer or printer, just a desk, for those of you who “have” to work. We also offer high speed internet so that you can spend as little time as possible “working”. Remember, you are here to relax, not work! We recommend spending time in the water and on the beach, not working!
Bedrooms & Bathrooms (click to expand):
  • Bedroom Comforts: Individual mini-split AC units in each bedroom as well as ceiling fans. Exuma and Eleuthera bedrooms also have 44″ TV’s. Each bedroom comes with clean sheets and extra pillows. there are extra linens in the closet or drawers.
  • Upper Bathrooms: The upstairs bathrooms come with soap, shampoo, toilet paper and clean towels. There is one hair dryer in the guest bathroom. If you are staying for more than a week, you may need to purchase more toiletries or ask for housekeeping to come (for a fee) from Property Management.
  • Lower Bathroom: The lower (ground level) bathroom comes with hand soap, hand towels and toilet paper.
Free WiFi & Internet (click to expand):
  • Wifi & Internet: The WiFi is free and we have Starlink high-speed internet. Starlink is generally 100+ Mbps so you will be able to stream movies and get work done efficiently. The “Aqua de Vista” WiFi password will be available upon checking in.
  • Smart TV’s: The “smart” TVs provide Netflix, Amazon & other streaming services. If you log in to any services, please log out before you leave! Also note that you are in the Bahamas, some services are not available.
  • DVD Player: For those of you old school folk (like me :-), There is also a DVD / Blue ray player and some moves that can be played if you prefer not to stream. You can also bring your own movies to enjoy during your stay.
Fun & Games (click to expand):
  • Kayak: There is a two person Kayak available for use. It is located under the house. Included are a set of oars and life vests to go with it (they may be in the storage bin). Please be safe and responsible when using the kayak. If it is very windy, please do not take the kayak out. You are welcome to leave the kayak down by the water during your stay, but please either keep it anchored off or pull it up above high tide mark on the beach.
  • Water Toys: We do try and keep extra snorkel gear and floatation devices under the house, but as it is a rental, we don’t always know what is available for the next guest as inflatables pop, snorkel gear gets lost, etc… If you find something missing, please let us know so we can replace it!
  • Beach Chairs and Beach Towels: There are several beach chairs that you can take down to the cabana or even to the beach. Beach towels are also provided.
  • Other Games: There are a few games for inside if it’s raining and other beach games and toys for outside. Too many to list and change to often.
Sustainability (click to expand):

We are a completely off-grid home. Solar for electric. Well / rain for water. Septic for sewer. We do have a backup generator so you won’t lose power, even on cloudy days, but we do ask that you take some extra responsibilities to keep the generator running at a minimum.

  • Laundry: Wash & dry clothes in the middle of the day when the sun is out rather than in the evening.
  • Showers: Taking short showers, especially in the evening to not use up all the hot water (or water in general!) before the solar can heat it up again and pump more into the cistern in the morning.
  • Drains (septic): Please don’t throw anything into the toilet but toilet paper. Do not pour grease down the drain.
  • Climate Control: There are Mini-splits in every room of the main house. Being off-grid, we ask that you run them responsibly. You won’t loose power as we have a backup generator, but if you are leaving for the day, please turn 1 or 2 mini-splits off and turn the temps up to 80. If you are home, you are welcome to open a window or two if you want fresh air, but if you do, please pull down the screens so that the mosquitos, no-seums and other bugs don’t get into the house. Please shut the windows anytime you leave and during rain storms. Keeping the windows shut is also a safety reason so no one or nothing falls out the windows. Keeping the windows shut and the AC units on, help control the humidity in the house. Our mini-splits do have heat pump heaters but you’ll probably never need it.
  • Drinking Water: You should not drink the sink water. Because we are so close to the ocean, it is “brackish”, meaning there is salt in it. Too much salt to drink. We do filter for toxins and bacteria, but the salinity is too high for safe drinking. So, we provide 10 gallons of bottled water for drinking. You can even cook with the well water, you just shouldn’t if you are going to leave the water in the food. Again, too salty. All of these things have to be thought about while staying at Aqua de Vista.

These, of course, are all just guidelines, not rules. We realize that maybe after a long hot day in the sun and sea, you might want to take a long hot shower in the evening. Or that you didn’t get back from an excursion till the evening and want to do laundry for the next day. You are welcome to do these things, we are just asking that if you have a choice, do them at the opportune time.

Other things to know (click to expand):
  • Accessibility: There are 14 stairs to climb to reach our villa. Unfortunately, there is no ramp or elevator to get to the main house. Please keep this in mind when booking.
  • Safety: Safety is always first. We have 3 fire extinguishers available. Smoke detectors in every room as well as a carbon monoxide detector. There is a fire retardant blanket under the kitchen sink if there is a fire on the stove. Be careful when using the electric stove top, it stays hot for a long time after being turned off. The only way in and out of the house is the Front Door. This door has a shut device so that it never remains open but slows it down to shut slowly and safely. But in extreme winds the door can shut fast and hard. In case of an emergency and the front door is blocked, we have window ladders in both master bedrooms that will allow you to exit out the bedroom window.
  • Security Cameras: Yes, we do have cameras for security. They are located ONLY on the outside of the house and property.

Recommendations and things to bring (click to expand):
  • Groceries / Shopping: We do recommend that you do all your shopping in town before you drive to the house. There two large supermarkets and 3 liquor stores that you can chose from in town. There are no food or liquor stores in Joe’s creek. The closest and small food and liquor stores  are toward the entrance to Treasure Cay about 15 minutes away. You can also have your food and drinks brought to you, liquor included! Sunkiss Provisioning provides this service. You can find their prices on their website at https://tinyurl.com/Sunkiss-Provisioning or call them at 1-242-806-2243.
  • Snorkel gear: We do try and keep extra snorkel gear and floatation devices under the house, but as it is a rental we don’t always know what is available for the next guest as inflatables pop, snorkel gear gets lost, etc…
  • Water Shoes! The Bahama Islands are made of Limestone. Limestone can be very jagged and sharp. our beach does have soft sand (crushed limestone), but there are a lot of exposed limestone rocks in various places. We recommend that you bring water shoes to enhance your experience. They can be found for very cheap on Amazon or Ebay.
  • Zip lock bags for Sea Shells: You can find seashells on our beach and many of the other beaches of the island so we recommend that you bring zip lock bags for your collection to take home as they can get pretty smelly. Conk shells are not supposed to be taken off the island. Do so at your own risk.
  • Sun Screen: Lots of sunscreen! Long sleeve shirts, hats. The sun can be intense. Getting sunburned is no fun and can ruin a vacation.
  • Bug Spray: Lots of bug spray! The mosquitos and no-see-ums (biting midges) can take a toll on your sanity if you don’t stay protected. If going out early or at dusk, be sure to also wear long sleeve shirts and long pants to keep them from biting you. There are bug sprays with sunscreen in them. We’ve found that Picaridin bug spray works better than Deet, but everyone has their choice.

More House Rules (click to expand):

This is a list of “nice to know” house rules but does not necessarily include all of the rules. If you have a question that isn’t answered here, please feel fre to ask us!

  • Minimum Age to Rent: 21
  • Children: The home is not child proof and on a second story so it can be dangerous for a small child. So only responsible children over the age of 6 unless you sign a waiver relinquishing us of responsibility.
  • Pets: Pets are NOT allowed. With that being said, there are several wild dogs called potcakes that roam Abaco. Please do not feed the potcakes. They will only beg for more food. Do NOT bring them in the house or feed them on the deck or anywhere around the house. If you have extra food and are compelled to feed them, please do so downstairs, away from the house. These dogs will get into the trash and take your shoes or anything you may leave outside if you try and befriend them.
  • Ocean: There are no life guards on the beach, so swimming is at your own risk.
  • NO SMOKING: There is absolutely no smoking in the house. There is plenty of smoking space outside. The cleaning fee will be waived and additional fines may be imposed if a guest smokes in the house.
  • NO PARTIES! We do want you to enjoy your stay and welcome you to invite guests that you know to visit for the day, but parties are not allowed and the max overnight occupancy is 6! The chances of property damage significantly increases when there are parties and we do not want and do not allow them. Nor do the neighbors. Remember that you are responsible for all damages.
  • Damage and Incidentals: You are responsible for any damage to the rental property caused by you or your guests during your stay.

Welcome to the beautiful island of

Abaco!

Did you know that Abaco is the second-largest island in the Bahamas, stretching over 130 miles long? The island is known for its unspoiled natural beauty, with pristine beaches, crystal-clear waters, and lush green forests.

Abaco is a haven for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. Visitors can explore the island’s many natural wonders, like the blue holes – underwater sinkholes that are unique to the Bahamas. There are also plenty of opportunities for fishing, boating, and kayaking, with the chance to see dolphins, sea turtles, and even wild pigs along the way.

But Abaco is also steeped in history and culture. The island was once a hub for the Lucayan people, who inhabited the Bahamas before the arrival of Europeans. Today, visitors can learn about the island’s history at the Wyannie Malone Museum, which celebrates the life of a local heroine who helped settle Abaco in the 18th century.

And if you’re lucky, you might even spot one of Abaco’s famous inhabitants, the Abaco parrot. These colorful birds are a symbol of the island and are found nowhere else in the world. They’re known for their bright green plumage, vibrant red and blue markings, and playful personalities. So keep your eyes and ears open & you might just hear the cheerful squawk of an Abaco parrot during your visit!

We could spend all of our time telling you about everything you can see, do and enjoy on Abaco and the out islands, but when there are experts already in town, we would rather just refer you to them!

Please visit the Abaco Sun for virtually everything Abaco. all of the nearby attractions, restaurants, stories, history and even a forum!

You can also visit the official Bahamas Ministry of Tourism website for more information on Abaco and all of the islands.
